The Olinda Valencia tree typically has a lifespan of 50 to 100 years under good growing conditions.

• Protection from pests and diseases, like citrus greening (HLB) or root rot

• Climate – they thrive best in warm, frost-free environments

The book Citrus and Subtropical Fruits is a great resource to answer technical questions about citrus. In general, Olinda Valencias need good drainage to avoid root rot. Here are some tips for fertilization:

• Use a balanced citrus-specific fertilizer, ideally with an NPK ratio such as 15-5-5. Avoid low-nitrogen or weak fertilizers, as they don’t meet citrus trees' nutritional needs.
  

Ensure the fertilizer also includes essential micronutrients like iron, zinc, manganese, magnesium, and boron—vital for maintaining healthy citrus growth.Tips for fertilizer scheduling:

• Young Trees (1–3 years old): Apply light fertilizer once a month from early spring through late summer.

• Mature Trees: Fertilize three times a year—once in early spring, again in early summer, and once more in late summer.
  

Distribute fertilizer evenly beneath the tree’s canopy, keeping it at least six inches from the trunk. Water thoroughly after application.

Olinda Valencia trees fruit readily on what is called their “third leaf.” This, of course, depends on how old the tree is at planting. TreeSource’s Box Ready Trees are already on their fourth leaf and are capable of fruiting the Spring of their planting. Small Pot and Super Citrus Trees will typically fruit two years after planting, which is the “third leaf.” We advise dropping fruit on baby trees, as this fruit will slow the development of your tree as the fruit takes away energy from the tree’s ability to grow roots and shoots.
