Shasta Gold Mandarin Trees for Sale
Citrus made easy for growers, nurseries, and distributors
The Shasta Gold mandarin is a premium late-season variety known for its rich flavor, deep orange color, and exceptional productivity. Developed through the University of California Riverside’s citrus breeding program, it is a cross of Temple tangor, Dancy mandarin, and Encore mandarin. The result is a seedless, easy-peeling fruit that combines the best traits of its parentage—sweet, aromatic, and balanced with just enough acidity to make the flavor lively and complex.
A mature Shasta Gold mandarin tree produces heavy crops of medium to large fruit that hold well on the tree and maintain outstanding eating quality through late winter and early spring. The Shasta Gold tangerine is valued by gardeners for its deep orange rind, high juice content, and consistent internal color. It performs well in California’s interior citrus regions where warm days and cool nights enhance fruit sweetness.
The citrus mandarin Shasta Gold also maintains excellent postharvest quality, making it a strong choice for commercial production and wholesale distribution. Because the variety is seedless even when planted near other mandarins, it remains one of the most dependable options for small farmers with a diverse planting of cultivars aiming to supply uniform, high-value fruit for small markets like a farmer’s market.
The variety adapts well to standard and semi-dwarf rootstocks, making the Shasta Gold semi-dwarf mandarin tree ideal for orchards seeking manageable canopy size and easier harvest. Typical spacing of 12 to 20 feet between trees supports excellent light penetration and consistent yields. For smaller or high-density systems, a Shasta Gold tangerine tree on compact rootstock provides robust production in limited space.

What is the optimal planting density for Valencia trees in a commercial orchard?
The Valencia orange trees for sale at TreeSource come in various rootstocks, such as Rich 16-6 trifoliate, C-35, or Carrizo. All will require at least 20-feet of spacing across the row and no less than 10 feet down the row. This spacing is called “double density” planting and will require a tree to be removed in 10-12 years to allow the Valencia trees to fully mature.
What kind of certification or testing do the Valencia trees undergo to guarantee their health?
At TreeSource Citrus Nursery, we grow our Valencia orange trees in CDFA– and USDA-certified greenhouses, following the highest standards of horticulture.. We use only certified budwood that is part of California’s Clean Stock Program.
Why should I choose a Valencia orange tree versus some other variety of citrus?
Valencia orange trees for sale at TreeSource represent one of the easiest citrus trees to grow. They fruit prolifically every year, make the best fresh orange juice you can imagine, and are adaptable to almost any climate. Valencia trees can handle desert conditions, coastal conditions, dry climates, or humid ones. They are the most adaptable of any citrus variety and are counter-seasonal to navels and mandarins, so they are the fruit of choice if you desire year-round citrus fruit in your garden or citrus farm.
