Citrus Trees
Ball and Burlap / Show relative size /
Since bare-root trees are not used in California, the Balled & Burlap (B & B) trees are the traditional standard for citrus trees in California. All other types of citrus trees are often compared to the quality of a B & B tree which is dug from the soil by hand using a tree balling spade. These trees are raised in a field location that is free from soil pathogens such as citrus nematode and Phyophthora root rot.
At TreeSource, the B & B trees we supply are the best in the California citrus industry. The caliper of the trunk must exceed 7/16" and the tree should not require a stake for support. The rootball must have a well-developed root system and be of suitable length and diameter.
We produce B & B trees as well as sell them from other quality nurseries around California. Any tree we sell for other nurseries must meet our high standard of quality and we back them as if we produced them ourselves. At TreeSource, we have made special arrangements with our tree suppliers, so you pay the same price you would pay if you bought the tree directly from them. Your advantage is that we handle the logistics for you and make sure the trees raised properly. For a quality B & B tree, you only need to remember the name of one citrus nursery, TreeSource.
For international shipments these trees must be bare-rooted and undergo special packaging for air shipment. A bare-root citrus tree must be planted upon receipt and has a very short shelf life (look at our citrus liner trees for an alternative tree for international shipments.)
