Rootstock Seedlings
Quality rootstock seedlings are the key to a successful citrus nursery effort. Our seedlings are grown in the traditional style with seed sown in a rich sandy soil that encourages optimum root development. Our main focus is the production of greenhouse-grown seedlings in a 1" x 8" cone container.
Since uniformity is of high importance when establishing a nursery of any size, the container seedling we supply is the best investment for your seedling dollar. They are grown in a greenhouse on raised benches that can supply bottom heat if needed. The raised benches reduce the risk of disease contamination and ensure air circulation.
- Budding can be accomplished 8 weeks from planting if soil temperatures are warm enough to allow root expansion.
- Once they are received, they can be planted at a slower rate than bare root since the roots are protected. Bare root seedlings lose their freshness every hour they are out of the soil.
- Cones can be sorted easily prior to shipment that insures you receive a uniform product.
- They grow by a single leader that allows for taller budding heights sooner than other seedlings.
- They are easy to transport in cardboard tri-walls or variously sized cardboard boxes. 2,500 can be transported in one tri-wall and up to 120,000 can be carried in a 48-foot semi trailer. Tri-walls can be double stacked.
- With some adjustments a planting machine can be adapted for mechanized planting methods.
